What is it about wine that makes us all fall in love? First thing: the context. Spain has no blood in its veins. It has wine. A great variety of wine, and lots of it. The country has almost 3 million acres of vineyards, more than 400 varieties of grapes, and is the third largest producer of wine in the world. The most prized designations of origin are those of our neighbors La Rioja and the Catalan Priorat, closely followed by regions such as Ribera del Duero, Ribeira Sacra or Montsant. Beyond these territorial divisions, Spain has hundreds of wineries with excellent production, with numerous wines that have scored in excess of 90 Parker Points. Did you know that the famous critic included a white wine from Valdeorras (Galicia) on his list of the best wines in the world that, in Spain, was mainly used for cooking? That’s the level of Spanish wines. ;-)
