Pasajes - Round trip

A half-day excursion to arrive by sea, accompanied by cliffs, to a lighthouse decorated like a medieval castle. What else? A fjord to cross by boat and a Venetian-like town that charmed the author of Les Misérables. Need more?

The tour begins where all great adventures in history have begun: at the seaport. We will embark from the port of San Sebastián and set sail for Pasaia, traveling along the coastline and the north face of Mount Ulia. In other words, we will sail the reverse route of the Northern Way of the Camino de Santiago (or the Coastal Way), so don't be surprised to see pilgrims walking with their backpacks (in the distance and along the mountain).

Into The Wild

We will navigate through a pristine stretch of coastline of about 5 kilometers, and from the sea, we will see rocky coves, cliffs, sandstone formations, the remains of an ancient aqueduct that supplied water to San Sebastián, or the peaks where the old fortifications stood to protect the coast (and one of these fortifications was built in the late 19th century because there were fears that the U.S.A. would invade Spain starting from San Sebastián... WHAT??).

Step by Step

When you see a beautiful lighthouse perched on a rock, it means we have reached our destination. This is the lighthouse of La Plata, built in 1855 located at the entrance of the port and the fjord (yes, a fjord like those in Norway!) of Pasajes.

Independence Port

As we know that Pasajes San Juan is very tempting, we will approach this town of a single street (we're not exaggerating!) in the fastest way possible: aboard a small motorboat that serves the locals. In a few minutes, we will immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of this town with medieval roots, alleys, and tunnels brimming with stories of sailors, whalers, and pirates. Did you know that Victor Hugo, author of Les Misérables, lived in Pasajes San Juan? And that the Marquis de La Fayette embarked in Pasajes heading to the United States to participate in the American Revolution? We won't embark to the United States, but to a better place: San Sebastián.
