Small Group Bayonne, Biarritz & Saint Jean de Luz

Three towns. One country that isn’t quite France, and definitely not Spain. Just a day trip away from San Sebastián, this full-day adventure packs in coastal beauty, chocolate legends, seaside promenades, and villages so charming they look like they were designed by a postcard artist. Add a small group and a guide who knows all the local secrets, and you’ve got the perfect blend of history, culture, and a little something tasty along the way.

Bayonne: Chocolate, Cathedrals & Character

We start in Bayonne, the cultural capital of the French Basque Country and the kind of place that surprises you at every corner. Half-timbered houses line the streets, the Gothic cathedral watches over the town, and the scent of fresh chocolate lingers in the air—for good reason. Bayonne has a long and proud chocolate-making tradition, and yes, you’ll have time to explore a shop or two if you’d like to bring some sweet history home.

Biarritz: Belle Époque by the Sea

Next stop: Biarritz, where French elegance meets Atlantic waves. Once the playground of royalty and later the gateway for surfing in Europe, this town has it all—grand seaside villas, sweeping views, and a laid-back vibe with a luxurious twist. We’ll walk the coastal promenade, take in the view from the lighthouse, and then head to Les Halles, the town’s beloved market, for a bit of free time.

Here, you're invited to follow your curiosity (or your appetite). Grab a few oysters, sample a local truffle dish, or snack your way through stalls offering crepes, gallets, French pastries, charcuterie, cheeses and more. Or just sit back with a coffee and soak in the scene—your guide will point you toward the best local finds.

Saint Jean de Luz: Postcards & Pastry Legends

Finally, we arrive in Saint Jean de Luz—a fishing village that feels like it was pulled from a postcard. Elegant facades, colorful shutters, narrow streets, and a quiet harbor—it’s impossibly charming, and every step reveals another picture-perfect view. This town was once a corsair stronghold and even hosted a royal wedding in the 17th century, which is when a local pastry shop, Maison Adam, created something quite legendary: the macaron.

You’ll be invited to step inside and try one for yourself, in the very place where it all began. Light, sweet, and filled with history—just like Saint Jean de Luz.

Route de la Corniche: The Scenic Way Home

To end the morning, we take the long way back—because it’s beautiful. The Route de la Corniche winds along the cliffs between Hendaye and Ciboure, offering one last stretch of French Basque coastline you won’t soon forget. It’s the kind of drive that makes you reach for your camera… and wish it didn’t have to end.
